About:

Farm Service Elevator uses 6.5 million bushels of corn to manufacture over 350,000 tons of poultry feed sold primarily to commercial farms and independent poultry growers throughout Minnesota.   FSE’s feed mill is located in Willmar, MN, with a history of operations since the 1960’s.

The Grain/Commodity merchandiser will be primarily responsible for procuring corn, soybean meal, and distiller grains for our Minnesota operations.  This individual will be communicating with corn producers, vendors, and internal employees.

Ideal Applicant Summary:

We are seeking an individual with exceptional communication, customer relationship management, and negotiation skills.  A successful merchandiser is also well organized, detail-oriented, and knowledgeable with inventory systems and managing approximately $50 Million worth of product throughout the procurement process.  This position will also have the responsibility to ensure quality control.

Previous experience in a leadership/supervisory level role is ideal.

A Bachelor’s Degree or Educational background related to Agriculture, Agribusiness, Grain Merchandising, or Business Management is highly desired but not required.  Previous experience and history of success in this industry or similar role is also encouraged to apply.

This role is responsible for the daily activities involved in order processing and the fulfillment of a variety of mechanical parts.  Our ideal candidate will have previous experience in a shipping or parts department and has strengths related to organization, multi-tasking, attention to detail, and customer service.  A positive personality is also a must!

Summary of Core Responsibilities:

  •          Parts order processing and order fulfillment domestically and internationally

The Opportunity:  Service Room Team Membmers

The Willmar, MN Hatchery hatches over 150 Million poults every year!   We have full-time, benefit eligible openings in our Service Room, where poults receive several treatments through automated, robotic equipment before they are supplied to our farmers.  These treatments and processes allow our birds to grow optimally and healthy.

Responsibilities of Service Room Team Members:

  • Performing several services on poults (day old baby turkeys) such as: toe/claw treatments, desnooding of beaks using automated robotic machines, counting birds, handling live birds and placing in robotic machines for processes, and removing deceased birds from the area.
  • Will be expected to keep work areas clean and rotate cleaning duties with team members

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be physically able to stand up to 2 hours at a time and lift up to 40 lbs
  • Must be willing to follow important bio-security procedures
  • Will be working closely with other service team members - must respect and get along with coworkers
  • Must be able and willing to handle live poults - baby turkeys
  • Must be able to work through repetition of tasks
  • Reliability is extremely important!
  • Must be willing to work major holidays as needed

Schedule and Wages/Compensation:

  • The hatchery service room operates 4 days/week:  Monday, Tuesday, Thursday Friday (NO weekends - Wednesdays we do not hatch)
  • Service Room Team must be able to start at 6:20AM - 5:30PM/6:00PM up to 8:00PM  until daily hatch is completed **end times can vary based on hatching cycles

About the Opportunity:

Select Genetics has a full time, career opportunity for a Staff Veterinarian to join our turkey breeder operations in Aurora, MO, with additional coverage in IA and IL.  Our operations have a well-established, operational structure for a seasoned Veterinarian to easily transition to, or a new graduate will find advantageous and supportive.  This opportunity will require you to provide strong technical support to the turkey breeder and hatchery operations, in addition to our poult customers, from our multiple locations.  You will be working within a large, multi-location team of production and management personnel, other Veterinarians and Specialists in our industry.

You will be responsible for helping adjust and maintain strong preventative health and biosecurity programs, through rational surveillance and monitoring protocols, as well as other audit instruments.  You will also be expected to design, participate and oversee various applied research trials in production and in controlled research settings.

The Ideal Candidate Summary:

Turkey breeder production is an evolving industry.  A successful candidate will come with a positive attitude, strong problem-solving skills, be self-motivated, have strong decision making, interpersonal, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Previous experience in poultry production or related animal production field would be preferred but is not required.  You will be expected to have a DVM degree from an AVMA accredited college and be eligible for licensure in multiple states.

Transportation Manager - Osceola, IA

Select Genetics is seeking a full-time Transportation Manager to ensure shipments into and out of our Osceola, IA hatchery facility.

Select Genetics is the leading supplier of quality turkey poults (baby turkeys), with a mission to deliver the highest quality poults at the greatest value to integrated food marketing companies, our commercial production farms, and independent turkey growers. Select Genetics has operations in eight US States.

The Opportunity:

This role is responsible that shipments are handled quickly, safely, and within budget. You will also coordinate with outside vendors that provide freight services and also ensure that delivery issues are researched and corrected. Staying current on various regulations including DOT, hours of service, employment safety, and freight classifications is also a key responsibility in this role.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Dispatching local equipment and crews, managing transportation related conflict and providing resolution.
  • Responsible for the implementation and oversight of procedural actions relating to Quality Control, Quality Surveillance, and Bio-security as directed by the Global Quality Control Manager.
  • Responsible for the implementation and oversight of fleet equipment maintenance, modifications, transfer of assets, and asset procurement.
  • Responsible for making hiring decisions of all logistics employees including Class A CDL Must be knowledgeable of CDL driver hiring requirements and DOT compliance.
  • Responsible for the development and training of local division logistics employees.
  • Collaborates with the Global Logistics Manager to make information recommendations regarding intra-office operations and logistics efficiency improvements.
  • Responsible for participating in and facilitating global dispatch coordination with all locations.
  • Overall departmental budgetary responsibility local budget and cost management and working toward a global team budget and goals.
  • Ensures DOT compliance with respect to all transportation equipment and logistics employees.
  • Responsible for creating an engaging, healthy, and productive work environment, through aligning them with company culture and values.
  • Responsible for helping with the development and implementation of safety programs and procedures.
  • Scope of responsibility is expected to include up to 20 employees.

The Ideal Applicant Qualifications

  • Previous Leadership experience is required. Must have a minimum of 1-2 years in a Supervisory or Management role.
  • Demonstrates strengths engaging and interacting with people in a positive way.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Confidence utilizing business computer information systems/software is required.
  • A Class A CDL license is preferred but not required.
  • A Bachelor’s level degree is preferred but not required.
  • Transportation or Logistics management experience is a huge plus.
  • Poultry industry experience is a huge plus.

Hourly DOQ Schedule: Full-Time Job Description & Apply Now

Willmar Poultry Farms specializes in the grow out process of quality poultry/turkey in the Willmar, MN area and has been in business for over 60 years!  We are looking for general labor workers who can provide general care of our birds, in addition to cleaning of the feeding and drinking water equipment, and assist with minor barn maintenance.

  • Applicants must be physically able to lift up to 50 lbs, be willing to handle birds, and work in a barn environment. Must also be required to follow all site specific bio-security rules.
  • Applicants must also be at least 18 years old, pass a pre-employment drug screen, and have personal transportation to get to barn locations in the Willmar area.
  • General Working hours: 7:00AM - 4:30PM, Monday - Friday plus rotating weekend morning and evening hours to perform general chores.

Compensation:  Starting wage DOQ is $12.40/hour.  With experience we will be negotiable!

***WEEKLY PAY and OVERTIME pay after 40 hours! 

Mileage reimbursement for any travel over 10 miles outside of Willmar.
